EBENEZER OBEY TO BE HONOURED IN STYLE ON NOVEMBER 6 AT THE COSON SONG AWARDS

The day is Friday, November 6, 2015. The venue is the awe inspiring Expo Hall of Eko Hotel & Suites in Victoria Island, Lagos. Dress Code is “To Kill”. The Red Carpet ‘Fantastico’ will be on fire and paparazzi will be everywhere exploding flash bulbs as Nigeria’s glitterati assemble for the big show. The bloggers will be busy like never before with Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Whassap and BB buzzing.

The big show is the much talked about and still talked about COSON Song Awards, the five star event of the amazing COSON Week. The atmosphere and excitement of the COSON Song Awards is best captured by its titillating slogan, ‘the only way to describe it is wow!’ Coordinating the night of glitz is the man who created and made popular entertainment award events in Nigeria, Chief Tony Okoroji. Talking about the COSON Song Awards, Okoroji says, ‘It is in a class of its own. It is the show of all shows’.

The stage will be lit up in a thousand rays of light as sweet music oozes out of the sassy speakers. Hush…hush, who will go home with Awoko? Awoko is the bird in Yoruba mythology famed to have outstanding music composition skills. When Awoko comes out to sing, every other bird disappears. Awoko has been carved by a master craftsman and is the insignia of the COSON Song Awards. The last composer standing whose song beats every other song in each category will go home with Awoko. Pray, whose songs will be celebrated on the night of stars?
Davido’s sweet song ‘Aye’ has three nominations. Aye will battle it out with the likes of Koredo Bello’s ‘God Win’ which also has three nominations. Also in the tough battle are Kiss Daniel’s ‘Woju’, Wiz Kid’s ‘Ojuelegba’, the Mavin’s ‘Dorobuchi’, Lil Kesh’s ‘Shoki’, P Square’s ‘Testimony’, Dr. Sid’s ‘Surulere’, 2Face Idibia’s ‘Dance Go’, Timi Dakolo’s ‘Iyawo Mi’, Olamide’s ‘Bobo’, Mc Galaxy’s Sekem’, Phyno’s ‘Alobam’, etc.
The big girls of the stage are not left out in the battle. Omowunmi’s ‘Megbele’ is nominated and so is Sheyi Shay’s ‘Right Now’, Asa’s ‘Eyo’, Yemi Alade’s ‘Johnny’, Tiwa Savage’s ‘My Darling’, Di ‘ Ja’s ‘Awww’ and Chidinma’s ‘Oh Baby’.

Six very talented Nigerian songwriters, namely: Patoranking, Harry Song, Cobahms. Tmi Dakolo, Frank Edwards and Olamide each has more than one song composed by them nominated and in contention for the awards Patoranking wrote two nominated songs, ‘Girl Oh’ and ‘My Woman’; Harry Song wrote ‘Pullover’ and ‘Reggae Blues’; Olamide composed ‘Bobo’and ‘Turn Up’; Cobahms created ‘Do the Right Thing’ and ‘Ordinary People’, Timi Dakolo composed ‘Iyawo Mi’ and ‘Wish me Well’ while Frank Edwards composed ‘Okaka’ and ‘Sound Code’ all nominated songs.

The highlight of the 2015 COSON Song Awards may very well be the presentation of the Mater Composer Award, a Life Time Achievement award to the most prolific songwriter/composer the Nigerian nation has produced, Ebenezer Remilekun Aremu Olasupo Obey-Fabiyi known to many as Ebenezer Obey. This incredibly gifted Nigerian has composed and recorded over one thousand songs. His beautiful and evergreen songs have inspired many across the Nigerian nation and far beyond and indeed have been the soundtrack of growing up for many Nigerians.

On the stage of the COSON Song Awards at the Expo Hall, Eko Hotel & Suites, Victoria Island, Lagos on Friday, the 6th of November 2015, the Nigerian entertainment industry will rise up as one and honour in style, a man who has been for many years, its best ambassador. Simply, unmissable!
