What NAFDAC Has To Say About Packaged ‘Garri’ Reportedly Imported From India

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) said it has commenced investigation into the garri reported Monday to have been imported from India.

The agency announced that preliminary investigation had shown the product to have been made in Ghana but packaged in the UK.

Speaking yesterday at a one-day zonal campaign on current regulatory issues in the safe use of drugs, animal feeds, pesticides and chemicals in Ilorin, the acting Director General of the agency, Mrs. Yetunde Oni, said the imported ‘Indian garri’ had no NAFDAC number, and efforts were on to know how the product got into the country, adding that garri is a staple food in Nigeria and should earn Nigeria foreign exchange instead of being imported.
