England’s new cricket kit launch could have used a dash more Joe Root and a lot less David Brent

joe-root-2.jpg

A ritual annihilation on Twitter was not quite what New Balance had in mind to institute its new kit deal with the England cricket team.
That’s what they got, though, for the advertising campaign which includes a poem in free verse penned to the nation’s next potential Test player, signed by the team. The letter - which is David Brent meets Brendan Rodgers in tone - opens with ‘Dear 677’ - the cap the number which the next selected player will be handed. It then disappears into a large vat of cheese, with the cringe factor compounded by someone’s bright decision to re-write the script of the film on which the letter was based.

Floyd Mayweather reveals he wants to buy NBA franchise as he holds talks with basketball legend Magic Johnson

  • Floyd Mayweather has stated his desire to own an NBA franchise
  • Mayweather insisted he is looking for a team after meeting Magic Johnson
  • The former world champion has been retired since the end of 2015
  • But he could be set to return to the ring to take on UFC star Conor McGregor

Having already conquered the world of boxing during his perfect 49-fight career to date, Floyd Mayweather has now set his sights on the NBA.

The four-division world champion is retired having last fought in 2015, though the prospect of a bout with UFC star Conor McGregor looms large, and has been a regular courtside attendee at NBA games across the country in recent months.

Mayweather has posted an image of him meeting with NBA legend Magic Johnson, now the president of basketball operations at the Los Angeles Lakers, and has stated his desire to purchase a franchise.

Floyd Mayweather has met with Magic Johnson and wants to own an NBA franchise

He wrote: 'Just had a great meeting with @magicjohnson.
'It's about time for me to buy an NBA team, if you're ready to sell your NBA team, please get in touch with me.'
That may well be easier said than done, given there are only 30 teams in the NBA which are largely owned by some of the world's richest people.
