I AM GWILZ AND I AM LYRICALLY LICENSED TO KILL!

He takes no prisoners and fears nobody. He is hot, fresh and daring. He is the one-man riot squad who cannot wait to give all the major rappers in Nigeria a run for their money.

Not caring whose ox is gored, he says to everyone’s hearing “I am Gwilz. I am the King of the Word, the Toastmaster-General and the Minister of Rap. I am lyrically licensed to kill!”

You better get used to the name, Gwilz because very soon you will see girls everywhere swoon to the music of Gwilz and recite his lines, word for word. For certain, people of all ages will scream the name, ‘Gwilz!’ The only exception will be the guys who will be beefing because Gwllz has so much they don’t have but Gwilz does not give a hoot.

Gwilz is an exceptional talent. He knows how to weave words together and create unique impressions. Gwilz has the uncanny ability to start a rap line in uppity English, swing to Igbo, pivot to Yoruba, come back to pidgin while keeping the beat pumping.

Gwilz is an original street boy and he has the scars to prove it. He has earned every degree you can earn in the University of ‘Hard Knocks’. On his way to fame, he has done every un-fancied job you can imagine. Not too long ago, he was a barber, cutting fancy hairstyles in the Egbeda and Gowon Estate areas of Lagos.

Says Gwilz, “I do what I have to do and say what I have to say. I grew up wanting to be a very good dancer but dancing in Egbeda was highly discouraging, so I gave all to music, irrespective of what everyone said to me. I am the 3rd child of my parents and I have strived hard to become somebody in order to avoid mediocrity. At this point, I don’t think there is any amount of discouragement that can break this wed-lock of “my music and me”.

For several months, the unique sound of Gwilz, a Libra born on October 1, Nigeria’s Independence
Day, has been roasted, toasted and cooked in the TOPS kitchen. The music of Gwilz is one of the very exciting delicacies being garnished in the kitchen of TOPS, the hot music production, publishing, distribution and events company, owned by the purist former PMAN President and COSON Chairman, Chief Tony Okoroji. The Chef-in-Chief has been Okoroji who for many years was a sought-after music producer and Artiste & Repertoire Manager for the world-wide recording company, EMI.

Says Gwilz, “We are all young and creatively crazy at TOPS: song writers, singers, producers, choreographers, managers, etc. We break every rule and create new rules. Our motivator, Chief Tony Okoroji, has given us a marching order. He has told us to go mad and create Nigeria’s new music and boy are we doing it? Nobody can stop me now because finally, Gwilz is doing that which he had for a long time prayed to do for free. The stupid thing is that I am getting paid for it!

“I am sorry for all those guys out there making a lot of noise. Very soon, they will have to deal with Gwilz. I am the King of the Word, the Toastmaster-General and the Minister of Rap. I was born on October 1 and I am lyrically licensed to kill!”

My very good friend, Patrick Harry Doyle, called PeeDee by a lot of people and PHD by some of us, has been really busy lately. He is on set everyday directing a most expected blockbuster movie called Madam President. I had the privilege of reading the script of Madam President shortly after Patrick Doyle wrote it. Once I started reading, I could not put it down. The intrigues! It was love at first sight. There and then, I requested to be awarded Seat No. 1 at what has to be a knock out premier.

How I was paid N150,000 to install Radio Biafra transmitter on MTN mast – Suspect

A telecommunication maintenance engineer, David Nwawuisi, has disclosed how he was paid a sum of N150,000 to install a Radio Biafra transmitter on an MTN mast in Ngwo, Enugu State.

Nwawuisi, 29, who was on the payroll of Ericsson, the firm managing mast sites for MTN, revealed this in a statement which he made to the Department of State Services on July 27, 2015.

The suspect said he was managing 45 MTN sites for Ericsson, adding that the Radio Biafra transmitter had operated for three months on MTN mast before it was discovered and his subsequent arrest by the DSS on July 15, 2015.

Nwawuisi, who obtained a B.Sc degree in Biochemistry from the Enugu State University of Science and Technology in 2010, said he was being paid N73,000 plus per month by Ericsson.

Nwawuisi stated, "I came to know about Chidiebere and Obioma one day the security woman called me to tell me that they will like to install a radio (transmitter) on one of my sites at Ngwo in Enugu State and I told them that I don't know who they are that if they can make out time so that we can see face to face because I don't know them and that was in May.

"So the next day, they called me. I was working in one of my sites at St. Michael Catholic Church Asata in Enugu State. I asked them to come down to that site and that was the place I saw them for the first time and they introduced themselves as Chidiebere and Obioma. They also asked for my name and I said David. They also asked for my native name and I said Chukwugozie and from there Chidiebere started saying that the radio (transmitter) they are asking for my permission to install in my site is to help them educate our people (Igbo) and let them know their brothers and where they come from.

"They called me again to remind me of that and that was when I told them ok and we agreed that they are going to be paying N25,000 only per month which they paid six months upfront. N75,000 cash was given to me that day they came for the installation and out of that I gave N5,000 to the security woman. The balance was paid into my account at Ecobank after the First Bank (account) I gave to Obioma failed to accept the payment.

"The payment of the balance was done two weeks after the installation of the radio (transmitter). On three different occasions, Chidiebere and Obioma called me to do some maintenance on the radio (transmitter). I gave them access into the site and left and when they finished, the security woman informed me that they are through and I came and locked the site.

"The items Chidiebere came (with) were an electronic that looks like a decoder and a DSTV dish which was installed on the fence. The other items were installed inside the MTN site shelter. The equipment has been there for three months and on July 15 the MTN staff went to the site and called me from the site and asked me what the equipment is. The name of the MTN staff is Mr. John Ibekwe. When he was calling, I couldn't get what he was asking due to the environment because I was driving and when I parked, I called the security woman to ask her and she told me that is the equipment that Chidiebere and Obioma installed that he is asking of.

"I called back the MTN man to tell him what the equipment is for, that is a Radio Biafra (transmitter) that was installed by Chidiebere and Obioma. I told him that I will like to see him which he asked me to come to Shoprite and I came and after I was taken to the MTN office by the MTN security patrol team. From the office, after telling them how the equipment came about and how I got to know about Chidiebere, I was taken to Enugu DSS office."

He stated that the MTN thereafter uninstalled the Radio Biafra transmitter

ARE NIGERIAN JUDGES ABOVE THE LAW?

Probably no one in Nigeria needs informed, professional and ethical judges than me. Very few in Nigeria have had their future determined by judges than me.

I have been to court many more times than the average Nigerian. Why?

Those close to me will tell you that I am mild mannered and not really quarrelsome. I however hold strong views about a number of things. One of them is that you cannot build a great society if you are unwilling to subject yourself to a set of agreed principles and the rule of law.

US Donates Used Mine Resistant APCs to Nigeria to Fight Terrorism

The United States Government on Thursday made good its pledge to support Nigeria in defeating the Boko Haram sect by donating 24 used mine resistant armoured personnel carriers (APCs) to the Nigerian military.

According to the US government, the 24 mine resistant armour protected (MRAP) vehicles were purchased for $11 million.

This is just as Nigeria is in the process of receiving an additional eight more MRAPs valued at approximately $7.4 million through the same Excess Defense Articles Programme from the US government.

While receiving the vehicles at the 9th Brigade cantonment, Ikeja, Lagos, the Minister of Defence, General Dan Ali (rtd), said it would help protect troops against improvised explosive devices (IEDs), thus limiting the number of casualties.

Ali, who was represented by the Chief of Operations, Defence Headquarters, Major General Barry Ndiomu, said the donation was timely, especially with the challenges of battling terrorism in the North-east region.

While requesting for more assistance from the US. government, Ali said some of the vehicles were not serviceable and some without spare parts.

He said: "We appreciate what the US has done but like Oliver Twist, we will appreciate if more is done. The vehicles came without spare parts.

"Not all of them are serviceable. The US should provide the necessary spare parts to enable us repair those that need to be serviced."

Handing over the vehicles to the military, the US Defense Attaché to Nigeria, Colonel Patrick Doyle, who was represented by Ambassador James Entwistle, said the vehicles are to provide protection from explosives.

He said: "These vehicles provide increased protection from improvised explosive devices, roadside bombs, and small arms fire, while offering more maneuverability and better fuel economy than other types of APCs.

"The Nigerian military arranged for transportation from the port to Lagos. Nigeria is in the process of receiving an additional eight more MRAPs through this programme, valued at approximately $7.4 million.

"The Excess Defense Articles Programme is designed to transfer excess military equipment from the US to foreign governments or international organisations to help with modernisation of partner nation military capabilities.

"Through a similar programme, the U.S. government donated to the Nigerian Navy the NNS Okpabana in 2014 and NNS Thunder in 2012. The two ships have bolstered maritime security in Nigeria.

"Today's equipment donation represents part of the continuing US commitment to Nigeria and its neighbours to counter Boko Haram's senseless acts of terror and promote regional security.

"The US provides advisors, intelligence, training, logistical support, and equipment to our African partners as they work to defeat Boko Haram.

"We also support those affected by Boko Haram's violence through ongoing humanitarian aid and victim support services.
"The US will continue working with our partners in the region to identify new opportunities to restore order in the Lake Chad Basin region."
