mark_zuckerberg_headshot_facebook (1)

Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg has surpassed Oracle Chairman Larry Ellison to become world’s sixth richest person after-hours trading on Wednesday.
Zuckerberg’s net worth increased $4.85 billion to $46.25 billion, as Facebook stock climbed 12% in reaction to reports of Facebook’s strong quarterly earnings report. That puts Zuckerberg more than $2.5 billion dollars ahead of Ellison, who has a net worth of $43.6 billion.

At the age of 31, Zuckerberg is the youngest of the world’s 10 wealthiest people. In September 2015, when Forbes released its annual Forbes 400 List, Zuckerberg became one of the 10 richest people in the United States for the first time. He’s now the 4th richest in the United States and 6th richest in the world. Zuckerberg first appeared on Forbes’ ranking of the 400 richest people in America in September 2009 with a net worth of $2 billion, more than two years before Facebook’s IPO in May 2012.

No Nigerian Loot With Me – James Ibori

James-Ibori-007

Former Delta State governor, Chief James Ibori, said there is no Nigerian loot with him waiting for collection by the Nigerian government.
Ibori, who is serving a prison term in London, said contrary to the statement credited to the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami that the Federal Government would recover the sum of £6.9 million from him, he said such money does not exist anywhere.
In a statement yesterday by his media officer, Tony Eluemunor, the former Delta governor stated that “there is no Ibori loot anywhere in the world. Such money, whether in British pounds, American dollars or the Nigerian naira just does not exist. This is because the Ibori London trial is not yet over.”
The statement added that it is an incontrovertible fact that the confiscation hearing against Ibori has not started, and remains months away into the future.
“This makes it disappointing that a high official of state such as the Attorney-General may have been misled into believing that an Ibori loot not only exists anywhere, but he even put a figure (6.9 million pounds) to it,” the statement noted.
He expressed surprise that such misleading information was coming less than one week after both foreign and local media reported that the case against Ibori and his associates may be re-tried because Metropolitan Police have been accused of bribery and corruption in the course of their investigations.
The statement added that as at Thursday January 21, hearing in the prosecution was forced to withdraw its case against one of Ibori’s counsel, Mr. Bradesh Gohil.

2face-1-1-1

Nigerian artist, Innocent Idibia, popularly known by his stage name, 2baba has described Blackface’s allegation as unfortunate.
The multi award winning singer expressed his shock at the accusation during an interview with Channels Television.
“It is just so unfortunate. I do not know where it is coming from (but) I am trying to think of different reasons,” he said.
2baba said that he initially thought Blackface’s account was hacked, stressing that he felt disappointed with the act.
On their friendship, he said: “He (Blackface) did not consider me his friend anymore,” noting that he wished him no ill will.
The Benue State born artiste said he would make sure the dispute was resolved, restating that it was unfortunate that his former singing mate was coming at him in such way.
“We will trash the whole matter but I got nothing but love and respect for him and it is just so unfortunate that he is coming at me like that,” he said.
Ahmedu Obiabo, who is popularly known as Blackface had earlier this week, called out singer 2baba in a series of tweets for allegedly publishing a song he owned without permission.

Ooni Of Ife To Visit Awujale Of Ijebuland On Friday

ooni-of-ife_Awujale-of-ijebu-land_Forumspotz
The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi will on Friday, January 29, 2015, pay another royal visit to the Awujale of Ijebuland and one of the most respected monarchs in the country, Oba Sikiru Kayode Adetona.
The reason for the visit is not known as at presstime. But it can’t and won’t be far away from matters concerning the Yoruba race and Nigeria in general. It will also afford the two first class traditional rulers the opportunity to know each other better. The Ooni, it would be recalled, had only days back visited the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Olayiwola Adeyemi. The visit attracted massive media mention – especially because Oba Ogunwusi’s predecessor, late Oba Okunnade Sijuwade and the Alaafin never really enjoyed a cordial relationship.Their disagreement bordered majorly on supremacy, which his successor is obviously not interested in.

Woman Arrested For Connecting NNPC Pipeline To Well In Her Home

A woman in Lagos has been arrested by officers of the Anti-Vandalism Intelligence Unit set up by the Inspector General of Police, over allegation of pipeline vandalism in the Isheri Olofin area of the state.
According to reports, the 59-year-old Mrs Folayinka Ayinde was picked up in her home located at KML 1, LASU Road, Iyana Odo bus stop, where she had allegedly being diverting petroleum products to sell for the past three years.
The woman was reportedly apprehended after a tip-off to security agents and is currently being interrogated.
But in her response, Ayinde vehemently denied involvement in the illegal act, asserting that she had earlier alerted officials of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation that some vandals were using her property to siphon petroleum products.
She added that the officials did not do anything to stop the act, and so she should not be blamed for it.
However, she admitted making a mistake in not informing the police about her finding but stated that some NNPC officials, whom she could not identify, had assured her that she did not have a problem after she informed them.
Ayinde added that some NNPC officials used to come to her property for inspection and she could not tell whether they were genuine officials of the agency or not.

PDP Wants To Destroy My Relationship With Buhari – Tinubu

Bola-Tinubu1-1-1-1-1-1-1-1-1

The National Leader of the All Progressives Congress, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, says there is a deliberate plot by some individuals to rub his name in the mud through fictitious reports in various blogs and the social media.
He said the smear campaign was tagged, ‘Destroy the reputation of Tinubu and his relationship with Buhari’.
Tinubu said this in a statement by his media aide, Mr. Sunday Dare, on Tuesday.
He said most of those behind the act were aggrieved members of the Peoples Democratic Party that had failed to recover from the defeat in the 2015 election.
Tinubu alleged that some of them were being probed for corruption and had decided to push him into the controversy to whip up public sympathy.
He said, “The individuals behind the plot are mostly scared PDP elements made frightened by the Buhari anti-corruption campaign. They direct this falsehood at Tinubu in the futile mission of trying to drive a wedge between the President and Tinubu to disrupt the progress being made against corruption and to destabilise the APC.
“But their PDP is already something by-gone, buried under the mass of its corruption and wrongdoing. They fight for a cause that has no cause. They are mercenaries of all the ills and defects that the people want excised from our body politic. Thus, we must do the people a public service.”
The former governor of Lagos State said he never granted any interview regarding President Muhammadu Buhari’s plan to run for re-election in 2019.
He also denied reports that he partook in the $2.1bn arms scam.
Tinubu said he had a list of the blogs that were carrying the false news and would soon expose their sponsors.
He said, “In the last six weeks, the Tinubu Media Office has monitored the stream of false, distorted media accounts written against Bola Ahmed Tinubu. We have learned that there is a concerted, wilful campaign tagged, ‘Destroy the reputation of Tinubu and his relationship with Buhari.’
As part of this ugly plot to cultivate the worst of lies against the national leader of the APC, several blogs and online sites recruited to launch this smear campaign have manufactured stories to advance this sinister plan to taint the public mind with gross lies disguised as news reports and interviews.
“Fallacious headlines such as ‘Reasons why I collected N9m-Tinubu’ and ‘I will not return N9m-Tinubu”. “I am afraid PDP will stop Buhari in 2019 – Tinubu,’ are being paraded. Try as hard as they can the creators of these false tales and misleading headlines will fail miserably.
“Their stories cannot stand up to the slightest scrutiny. They are patently false and we condemn in the strongest terms those involved in this anti-Tinubu racket.”
Tinubu said such a smear campaign was nothing but libel and would not be taken likely.
The APC leader said some of them had even gone as far as cloning the letter head of his media office, warning that those behind the campaign would soon be brought to justice.
He added, “While these fellows may think themselves cunning, they might have outwitted their very selves. In writing these stories, they have committed clear libel. In abusing the media office letterhead and name, their misrepresentations amount to forgery.
“They laugh now but walk on thin ice. Soon, that ice will break and they shall have nothing but the weight of their wrongdoing to blame for their predicament that will soon come.
“After identifying the bloggers and paid hatchet writers perpetrating these wrongs, the Tinubu Media Office is taking the step to alert the public to beware and be weary of hatchet writers, false prophets and paid bloggers. The Tinubu Media Office has the names and online sites recruited for this campaign and will not hesitate to make them know if they do not desist from their negative mission.”

CBN Introduces New Charges for Current Account Holders in Nigeria

cbn111111-2-1-1-1
The Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, has announced that bank customers are now mandated to pay a maintenance fee on current account transactions.
The new fee is a negotiable current account maintenance fee not exceeding N1 per mille (N1 per N1,000,000) may be charged in respect of all customer-induced debit transactions, a circular from CBN’s Financial Policy and Regulation Department Director Kelvin Amugo, said.
In the circular titled: “Introduction of Negotiable Current Account Maintenance Fee not Exceeding N1/mille”, Amugo said the negotiable current account maintenance fee was in furtherance of the mandate to promote and safeguard a sound financial system.
He reminded lenders that 2016 zero COT regime as jointly agreed during the 311th Bankers’ Committee meeting of February 12, 2013 had come into effect and must be complied with.
“The CBN noted that while the gradual phase out was being observed, some banks continued to charge account maintenance fees in addition to the reduced COT rate, which in effect amounted to double coincidence of charges,” he said.
The fee came weeks after the regulator struck out Commission on Transaction (COT) fee, which contributed significantly to lenders’ profitability.

The agency stated that the N83 per litre price applied only to the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, outlets.

It further puts the expected open market price, which is the landing cost plus total margins at N72.28 per litre.
The expected open market price is the prevailing open market rate for the product in Nigeria, after taking certain costs into consideration.

Dasuki’s Lawyer Links Jonathan To Arms Deal

dasuki-d11-1-1-1-2-1

A lawyer defending Sambo Dasuki in court appears to have indicted former president, Goodluck Jonathan, in the ongoing arms deal probe in Nigeria.
Ahmed Raji, one of the lawyers of Sambo Dasuki, the embattled former National Security Adviser to Jonathan, stated that the arms deal probe cannot be discussed without reference to Jonathan.
“The national security adviser will normally carry out the instructions of his president,” Ahmed Raji told AFP.
“You cannot talk about this matter without talking about President Jonathan,” he added.
It is unclear if President Muhammadu Buhari will go after his predecessor, with many political analysts claiming that Buhari will most likely not to do so.
It would be recalled that when Buhari was voted into power in 2015, he said in his acceptance speech last April that: “President Jonathan has nothing to fear from me,” adding that, “Let’s put the past behind us, especially the recent past.”
But with the prosecution of Dasuki, a powerful member of Jonathan’s administration, the former head of state could yet be dragged into the case.

An All Metal Bodied Nokia Smartphone Leaked In New Photos

nokia_c1_leaked_image_sides_weibo

Few images showing an all-metal Nokia smartphone has popped up on the Web, making it one of the devices the company might launch this year. It is worth mentioning that the non-compete clause in theMicrosoft-Nokia buyout prevents the Finnish tech firm from releasing smartphones under the Nokia brand ended on December 31, 2015.
To note however, Nokia executives have previously confirmed that the terms of the agreement stipulate that Q4 2016 is the soonest Nokia can release a smartphone – indicating the non-compete clause was extended without public announcement.
Nokia CEO Rajeev Suri had in July last year confirmed the company’s plans to re-enter the mobile market, and said it will sign an agreement with a manufacturer which will be responsible for manufacturing, distribution, and sales of its smartphones. The Finnish company followed the same strategy with the N1 tablet launch where the company signed a brand-licensing agreement with Foxconn.
Getting back to the leak, we see the images posted by a Weibo user show the box-like shaped black-coloured Nokia smartphone from back, front, and sides. The handset is seen sporting two antenna lines at top and bottom on the back with the camera at the top-centre position and flash placed above it. The company logo can also be seen at the centre of the back panel. While the volume and power buttons are on the right, the SIM card slot and possibly the microSD card slots sit on the left. The front panel features a speaker grille on top and Nokia logo below it. The sealed back and side panels also hint towards some IP ratings. Unfortunately, there are no details on the specifications or the launch date of the unannounced handset.

nokia_c1_leaked_image_weibo

The design of the Nokia handset contradicts the design we saw in previous rumour related to the Nokia C1 last year. However, since that was just render images, this might be the real Nokia C1. Nothing can be confirmed as of yet.

Android Has Generated $31 Billion Revenue, $22 Billion in Profit for Google.

android_reuters_293

Google’s Android operating system has generated revenue of about $31 billion and profit of $22 billion since its release, an Oracle Corp lawyer told a US court hearing the software company’s copyright lawsuit against Google.A lawyer for Google did not discuss the figure, according to a transcript of the hearing in a Northern California federal court last week. But he said the Alphabet Inc unit might be willing to disclose more information about the revenue produced by Android as part of the court proceedings, the transcript reviewed by Reuters showed.
The Android mobile operating system began with the release of the Android alpha in November 2007. The first commercial version,Android 1.0, was released in September 2008.
Oracle is accusing Google of using its Java software without paying for it to develop Android.
Google said in a court filing on Wednesday that the Android disclosures should not have been made public, and asked the court to place it under seal.
The document, which had been available electronically at a San Francisco courthouse, was removed from the publicly accessible portion of the court’s computer system while a Reuters reporter was reviewing it on Thursday afternoon.
It is not clear what occurred or whether the document would become available again.
Google was not immediately available for comment. Oracledeclined to comment.
The closely watched case involves how much copyright protection should extend to the Java programming language, which Google used to design the operating system. Oracle is seeking royalties for Google’s use of some of the Java language, while Google argues it should be able to use Java without paying a fee

Nigeria to Borrow $5bn From Europe, Others – Finance Minister Kemi Adeosun

Kemi1

According to Minister of Finance, Kemi Adeosun, Nigeria is planning to borrow up to $5 billion from several sources, including the Eurobond market, to plug deficits in the 2016 budget.
“Our total borrowing expectations are now at 1.8 trillion naira ($9.1 billion),” she said in an article by her entitled Nigeria’s Economy: The Road to Recovery, which was circulated by her ministry on Thursday.
“We hope to raise approximately $4.5 – 5 billion from multiple external sources. This includes multilateral agencies, export credit agencies and we are also planning to tap the Eurobond market,” she said according to Reuters.
Nigeria has taken a hit from the global crash in crude oil prices. Crude oil is the country’s main export and source of foreign exchange. The fall in oil prices has dealt a blow the value of the country’s currency, the naira, which of recent has been hitting record lows at the parallel market.

Messi’s Trial For Tax Fraud To Start On May 31

Lionel-Messi-1

Lionel Messi’s tax fraud case will be heard by a Barcelona court from May 31 through to June 3, according to statement on Wednesday.
World Player of the Year Messi and his father Jorge are accused of defrauding the Spanish state of 4.2 million euros ($4.6 million) in tax between 2007 and 2009 and a Spanish court ordered that they stand trial last October.

The pair are accused of ceding the player’s image rights to the companies in order to avoid declaring money made from lucrative deals with sponsors in Spain.
Public prosecutors had asked for the case against the Argentine player to be dropped as they considered the alleged fraud was carried out by his father, who has managed his son’s affairs since he was a child.
But in October 2015 the judge in charge of the case rejected the request, writing in a court filing that “there are rational signs that the criminality was committed by both accused parties.”
Lawyers acting on behalf of the tax office have asked for both defendants to be slapped with prison sentences of 22 and a half months.
Both father and son have denied the accusations and instead blamed a former financial advisor.

Jorge Messi made a voluntary corrective payment of five million euros in August 2013 which is expected to mitigate any sentence.
Even if convicted it is unlikely that either Messi or his father would enter prison as jail terms of less than two years are usually suspended for first time offences in Spain.

‘Let Us Enjoy Our Rat Meat In Peace’ – Benue Man On Lassa Fever

Some indigenes in areas that consider rat meat a delicacy are at the forefront of the risk of spreading Lassa fever to the general population.
This information was gleaned by us whilst monitoring a program on Channels TV Evening News.
A local seen in an alternative meats market in Benue State whilst being interviewed by Channels TV correspondent protested the proposed ban on rat meat by government in order to curb the spread of the disease.
The man seemingly frustrated with the mulled ban said “why does government want to come and ban the only meat that is available for the poor man to enjoy?

Why Lassa Fever Can’t Be Tackled Like Ebola – Health Minister

Prof-Isaac-Adewole1-800x600-1-1

Health Minister, Prof. Isaac Adewole, has lamented what he described as the culture of silence permeating the Nigerian society in reaction to the outbreak of Lassa fever pandemic in the country.
Speaking to State House correspondents at the Presidential Villa on Wenesday, the minister cited the case of Ebonyi State, which had so far records about five cases of Lassa fever but never cared to report his Ministry for necessary action.
The minister denied that cases of Lassa fever were hidden, but admitted there were not brought to the public knowledge until it became late. His words, “Not that they were hidden but they were never brought to public knowledge. There is also what we can consider to be culture of silence in some of our states. For example, we recognised Ebonyi State as one of the endemic states.
“And since the outbreak, Ebonyi has not recorded a single case or reported a single case. We despatched our surveillance team to Ebonyi and we discovered five cases.
“We are not having a resurgence. What we had over the years is a situation which Lassa is endemic in Nigeria. And as I said on numerous occasions, we have these outbreaks. In 2012, we had the highest. We have 1700 case and that declined.
“Last year, we had 441 cases. And what has happened is that for the first time in the history of the country, we are being transparent and open and we are telling the entire world what the situation is and that is what is different.
“We are also concerned. We want to find out why we are still having this Lassa fever in spite of human and material resources that we have in this country. We inaugurated a Lassa fever eradication committee chaired by one of the foremost virologists in this country and we are committed to signing the obituary of the Lassa fever this year.”
Explaining why the war against Lassa fever may not be fought the way the country tackled Ebola, the minister said the source of Ebola in Nigeria was traced to one person that imported it into the country.
According to him, “We can not win the battle against Lassa fever the same way we won the one against Ebola. Ebola happened to be a single importation to Nigeria. Lassa fever is endemic in Nigeria. In 2012, we had upsurge in 26 states. So, it is there but I can assure you that with what we put in place this year, we will sign it off.”
He said the federal government was determined to get to the root of the issue saying, “What we want to do is put across some innovative funding mechanisms, ability to manage and put to use 10,000 primary health care centres across the country over the next two years. In the next 100 days, we will flag off 110 of these centres.
“We will start with the one in Fuka where we first had this outbreak. We will do one per senatorial district, 109 to make 110 in 100 days. This year alone, we will do 5000.”
